South Carolina State University was founded in 1896 and remains our state’s only public historically Black college and university (HBCU). For 126 years, our students have earned a reputation for being highly skilled and socially aware. They represent generations of leaders in business, military service, government, athletics, education, medicine, science, engineering, and technology. Among them are 15 college presidents, 119 professional athletes, and over 2,000 army officers. Upon reaching success in their careers, our alumni give back to the institution—not only in funding younger students but also in serving them as mentors through a network that spans the globe.

“I followed my four older siblings from Queens, NY to SCSU. We all had one mission: to be successful. My older siblings have graduated from a range of majors and gone on to be successful in their careers, just as I will next May.”

“SCSU is a smaller campus. When I first toured, I noticed how authentic and natural everything was. Nothing seemed forced. I didn’t feel like SCSU was trying to persuade me. I saw so much potential in every aspect of campus and realized that smaller institutions have enough love and attention to spread across to everyone.”
